Hathkadi is a Hindi action film starring Govinda, Shilpa Shetty. After a murder is committed, his goon Chakku Pande is arrested. In court, Chakku blames officer Suraj. Someone shoots Chakku and Suraj is handcuffed. In jail, Suraj meets Rajnikanth, his lookalike.

Govinda is a natural in a comedic role, but he overreacts in serious roles.

Rajnikanth and Suraj exchange places so that Suraj can go out and avenge his loss. He joins up with Rajnikant, his jailhouse lookalike, to expose the culprits and bring them to justice.
